Refurbishment and extension work completed! Our exciting development project Christchurch Court goes organic! New appointment of Deputy Homes Manager We are pleased to announce that Allan Fairweather has been appointed
Deputy Manager. Stephen Barker, Activities Coordinator at Christchurch Court, has been instrumental in providing art sessions to those who live within the home. Stephen has a degree in Fine Arts and has accessed exhibitions where residents work has been displayed countywide. All of the images shown here were produced by a number of Christchurch Court residents.
We have, in recent months, exhibited these pieces at various art shows, all of which have had favourable reviews. The pieces were produced during regular art sessions which play a small part in aiding the residents' identified needs, which in turn may assist in the recovery process. During the sessions, residents are encouraged to strengthen important everyday skills such as the ability to focus attention and concentration. The sessions can also go some way in helping a resident to process their thoughts and encourage communication. Such sessions are viewed as a time that can promote relaxation and contemplation. We are now looking to display some pieces around the home. We currently offer the following artistic processes; painting, drawing,
printing, photography, needlecraft, embroidery, poetry writing and card
making. Refurbishment and extension work completed! An exciting building project started in Summer 2005 - to update and refurbish the home to the highest possible standard and increase our capacity to 21 with the addition of four new bedrooms. This work has now concluded and our residents are all able to enjoy full en-suite facilities, a new summer lounge, new smoking area, enlarged laundry area and the use of two additional fully equipped kitchen workstations. Christchurch Court staff have also benefited with enlarged office facilities/storage space, an additional private meeting room and the installation of new technology.
Maintaining the quality of our resident's environment and care while this work was undertaken was our prime consideration. Everyone who lives at Christchurch Court was consulted and kept fully informed of the work as it progressed. Good natured relationships were developed between all at Christchurch Court and the builders although when the time came we were happy to bid them goodbye. Christchurch Court previously completed an extensive gardening project which boasts sensory areas and a gorgeous tranquil environment. This is maintained on a weekly basis by a gardener who, using organic principles, enhances the beautiful flowers, trees and shrubs. In the summer months this area is used by our Residents on a regular basis. They report that is a very relaxing place to be. The designer who planned the garden has vast experience in feng shui, a horticultural degree and has worked at places such as Kew Gardens. We are planning to develop a third home that will accommodate the needs of our growing service offering. Watch this space for more details in the coming weeks.
Christchurch Court goes organic!
We have plans to look into purchasing more organic products, such as food and cleaning products, as well as minimizing our waste as a home. We will keep you posted to how this project unfolds and develops.
